Common Marketing Mistakes Made by Law Firms and Attorneys

Common Marketing Mistakes Made by Law Firms and Attorneys

Affording a solo or full-fledged firm often depends upon a steady flow of new clients. Under the old model, a fresh law grad would get a job at a firm. Next, the green attorney would learn the ropes. Once trained, the advocate would put out his shingle. Sometimes they may partner up and start an LLC. Often, a paycheck was based solely upon referral advertising. Targeting old clients remains a standard model. And only a small percentage of injury attorneys have had great success in bringing on new clients. For example, these intelligent people will be guest speakers on the legal seminar circuit. So this includes seminars such as CAOC or CAALA (bother consumer attorney organizations that give out MCLE credits to attendees of conventions, such...

What Do You Get Between an MMA Star and a Top Attorney?

Sure, it sounds a little like a joke. But there’s nothing funny about this pairing. Except for Renato Laranja’s quips and jabs. The MMA fighter and hilarious host of the Renato Laranja Show teamed up with Los Angeles’ premier accident attorney Michael Ehline through the end of 2020 for a dream team collaboration. Rear Ended? Getting choked out by your insurance adjuster? “Ehline got a black beltch in getting you money porra!” – Renato Laranja (BJJ Champ.) There was an obvious reason that Laranja decided to work with Ehline. For starters, he recognized Ehline’s martial spirit. The attorney and head of the law firm that bears his name is an inactive Marine. While he may be a little slower than his time in the Corps,...

Does Hate for the President Trump The Law?

Vetted member of the Personal Injury Warriors Crew President Trump laid out a well put together, nuanced approach to overseas travel. After a few bumps, the revised version headed to the courts is just what the country needs. It uses recent precedent, a true understanding of current immigration law, and means to enforce it. Naturally, he’s been fought every step of the way. Unfortunately, there are many in the legal community and beyond simply blinded by their hate of the Commander in Chief than to give him any credit. The New York Times reported on the upcoming case. The Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals blocked the executive order, even though there is no legal case to do so. In fact, the court even stated that they consider it...

Having a Law Degree Means it’s Time to Learn Business

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM red Rubber Stamp over a white background. You’ve been through four years to get your Bachelor’s Degree and likely about three to get your JD, not to mention any internships or prior experience. All of that reading through case studies and precedent it’s not hard to begin to write or speak like you belong in Robert’s Rule of Order. There are clearly many circumstances where a professional, formal style can assist the young tort attorney, but sometimes formality goes well too far. Most of all, lawyers must learn business etiquette. Naturally, that includes knowing marketing 101 to start with. But informality often gets attorneys in trouble. And this is especially true if they let colloquialisms...

Soon to be Nearly Universal, Fears Over Efficacy and Self Driving Cars?

Ridesharing Automatic Emergency Braking systems, or AEBs, become nearly universal in passenger cars by 2022. Most of the major car manufacturers have jumped on the wave. They offer them in their new car lineups or will soon. While there can be certain advantages to such a system, a AAA study cited by TechCrunch showed a number of unexpected drawbacks. As the pace of such systems only increases the need for a closer look grows as well. The tests found interesting facts about cars using the AEB systems running at 30 and 45 miles per hour. Often they still do not prevent all crashes. In fact, the tests weren’t even close. When operating at 45 the car did not avoid such a collision 60% of the time. There are still positive aspects to...

The Fatal Millennial Trap Law Firms Fall Into

Playing Against Millennials’ Interests Vetted member of the Personal Injury Warriors Crew There are a series of stereotypes about Millennials. Many of them are negative, but 100% accurate. Many of that generation get portrayed as unable to handle difficult circumstances. They are also in need of “safe spaces”, free speech zones” and coddling. Many “progressive” injury law firms play into this stereotype. So they are actively attempting to bring in younger clients. Also, they do this through the support of policies that hurt businesses, including law companies. Millennials and Financial Chaos Americans for Tax Reform describe the economic situation of Millenials as “financial chaos.” Unemployment...

Child Loses Hand in Fireworks Mishap

Happy family at sunset Injuries to our kids are probably the single worst nightmare for a responsible parent. Living in a free society means we have dangerous freedoms.  At the end of the despot spectrum, we have peaceful slavery. Tempering the two means society as a whole must be taught civics and love of country at an early age. When citizens are divided and trample their flag, laws are meaningless and selectively enforced. Instead, your right to life, liberty, and property become dependent upon political leanings of the judge, prosecutor, and jury. Parents cannot and should not cede their duty to rear responsible kids to the government that benefits from division and discontent politically. When parents are on welfare and have never had...

Adapting to the “New” Field of Law

A successful lawyer in the office of justice figure in the foreground. As we come into the age of electronic vehicles, we can see a point in time where there will be less car accidents. This means that traditional PI lawyers need to be considering the latest cottage industries in the injury law field, just as many doctors had to balance the value of continuing the practice of medicine after the passage of the so called “Affordable Care Act.” Safety regulations, just like medical laws, do seem to create some new industries, while destroying others, for better, or for worse. The bottom line is that “the times, they are a changing.” An Ever-Changing Environment The legal field is not one for anyone afraid of change. Between...
