According to the California Highway Patrol, the driver in the white Mercedes was speeding on East Roseville Parkway just west of the Granite Bay Golf Club when the vehicle suddenly veered off the road and crashed into a tree, knocked it down, and smashed into a second tree before coming to a halt.

Following the single-vehicle crash, the car caught fire, burning three passengers and one driver inside. The four occupants were pronounced dead as soon as the officers arrived at the accident scene.
The Placer County sheriff’s office identified three passengers; Patrick Gainer, Paul Hammack, and Karan Pannu. They also revealed the identity of the driver, Jerry Cepel, 61-year-old Granite Bay resident.
The witness spoke to the California Highway Police officials, informing them that the cause of the accident was overspeeding. Officers have started their investigation, and authorities are currently not sure whether there were drugs or alcohol involved in the fiery Granite Bay crash.
