‘Fit and Healthy’ Man Died of Bleeding on the Brain after Covid Vaccine
On December 14, 2022, a coroner ruled the cause of death of a man who died in 2021 from a blood clot in the brain, the Covid vaccine. Let’s explore the details of the ruling with Ehline Law and our personal injury attorneys.
Coroner Reports Covid Vaccine as Direct Cause of Blood Clot Leading to Death
On March 30, 2021, Jack Last, a 27-year-old from Stowmarket in the United Kingdom, received an AstraZeneca Covid jab. A week later, Last complained of severe headaches and constant vomiting, leading to his hospitalization.
On April 10, 2021, the medical providers conducted a scan that revealed a blood clot in Last’s brain cerebral venous sinus thrombosis, and on April 20, 2021, Last died from the injuries.
More than a year later, on December 12, 2022, the Suffolk Coroner’s Court began a judicial inquiry into Last’s death.
‘Fit and Healthy’ Man Died of Bleeding on the Brain Due to Covid Vaccine, Inquest Heard
After hearing the case for two days, listening to the facts presented, and witness testimonies, the Senior coroner Nigel Parsley ruled the cause of death as a blood clot in the brain directly resulting from the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccination.
The West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds initially diagnosed Jack Last with a migraine before conducting tests that further identified cerebral venous sinus thrombosis. Jack received blood thinners to thin the clot before medical professionals transferred him to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, where Last died.
Scan Called for Could Not Be Carried out Due to Staffing Issues, Plaintiff Attorney Reveals
During the judicial hearing at the Suffolk Coroner’s Court, the plaintiff’s attorney revealed that Jack did not receive a CT scan immediately when requested, as the radiographers on duty did not have the technical expertise.
Michael Portman-Hann, the attorney representing the surviving family members, stated that had Jack received a CT scan earlier, he may have survived.
Grieving Family Looking to Pursue a Clinical Negligence Case
The grieving family stated they did not have the medical knowledge to determine Jack’s condition and trusted the National Health Service to help Jack.
According to Michael Portman-Hann, the family will be pursuing a clinical negligence case against the hospitals involved as they could’ve done more to save Jack’s life.
Could Jack Have Died from a Brain Hemorrhage Due to the Covid-19 Vaccine?
Types of Brain Hemorrhages
According to the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, there are many different types of brain hemorrhages, and these include:
- Intracerebral hemorrhage
- Subarachnoid hemorrhage
- Subdural hemorrhage
- Epidural hemorrhage.
How Brain Hemorrhage Occurs?
The difference between the types of brain hemorrhages is the location of the bleeding. As the blood in the brain starts to collect in the blood vessels, it leads to a blood clot, causing intense pressure on the brain, which may lead to severe headaches, similar to what Jack Last was experiencing.
The blood clot deprives the brain cells of oxygen and damages the brain tissue, and the pooled blood can eventually lead to intracranial hemorrhage.
Risk Factors of Brain Hemorrhage
A brain hemorrhage can happen due to several risk factors, including the following:
- High blood pressure
- Head trauma
- Liver disease and other health problems
- Brain tumor.
Advisory Issued Against AstraZeneca Vaccine for Those under 40
In 2021, medical professionals in Britain advised against the AstraZeneca vaccine in young adults after the appearance of rare blood clots.
The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency issued an advisory for medical professionals to give other Covid-19 vaccines to people under 40 a few weeks after Jack died.
Immediate Diagnosis Can Increase the Chances of Survival
Brain bleed requires immediate diagnosis so that neurological surgeons can perform the right treatment and give appropriate drugs to prevent spasms.
Although intracerebral hemorrhages and other forms of brain hemorrhage are life-threatening, immediate detection through tests (CT scan, lumbar puncture, and Cerebral angiography) can help increase the chances of survival.
Who Can You Sue for Death from Covid Vaccine?
Covid-19 vaccine manufacturers have immunity from liability which means you cannot sue them in case of harm (certain exceptions apply).
In the case of Jack Last, the families can pursue a clinical negligence case as the hospital had staffing issues and previously misdiagnosed Jack’s ailments leading to his death.
